Our Mission
It is
our mission to provide a means of identification through
DNA analysis to the men and women who risk their lives
as firefighters.
Our Purpose
It is our purpose of the National
Firefighter's DNA Registry to ensure that no fallen
firefighters go unidentified.
In the World Trade Center disaster of September 11th,
many of the firefighters had to be identified by DNA
testing. The DNA profiles determined for the victims had
to be compared to family members who were already facing
tremendous grief. The goal of the National Firefighter's
DNA Registry is to never test a grieving family member
so that they can find out if it is their loved one who
has perished. The registry will serve as a voluntary
database of firefighter profiles that can be compared
directly to a fallen firefighters.
About the
founder of the registry
The president of the GFI Laboratory
is also the president of the Rockwood Fire Department
and holds national Firefighter I and EMT certification.
Like many departments around the country, the Rockwood
Fire Department is all volunteer and relies on the
donations of the community and fundraisers. If you are
