Signs of asthma in a child

If a child has a dry cough, this may be one of the signs of asthma, one of the most common diseases occurring in a chronic form. In such a situation, early recognition of the disease can relieve another attack, and will provide an opportunity to prepare for the necessary assistance. To do this, you need to know the signs of asthma in a child, and respond in time to the approach of an attack. Untimely and incorrect therapy in this case can lead to complications and the negative impact of an asthmatic attack on the whole body. Asthma suffers in all regions of the Russian Federation and any country in the world.

Factors provoking the occurrence of bronchial asthma in children

A disease can occur and develop at an early age under the influence of irritating substances (allergens) with a common or individual etiological effect. Among the main characteristics, there is an increased activity of the bronchi on irritants and edema of the bronchial walls with increased secretion. Asthma affects about 10% of young children. Although the disease can actively manifest itself at any time, signs of asthma in a child begin to occur at 2-5 years of age. The disease cannot go away on its own. Having reached adulthood, a person suffering from childhood asthma will still feel its influence. When you notice asthma in a child, you don’t need to scare the child with enhanced preventive and therapeutic measures, this is a chronic disease and haste can only do much harm.

This ailment is not transmitted by air or in any other way, therefore it is impossible to contract asthma. By the beginning of puberty, asthma under the influence of hormonal activity may disappear for a while and not declare itself. However, any change in the environment, the emergence of new types of stimuli will inevitably lead to the return of attacks.

How to determine that a child has asthma
Parents should know and correctly identify the signs of asthma in a child before an attack:

Choking (occur about 1 time in a month);
Panting with noises;
Wheezing in the throat when breathing;
Manifestations of external anxiety.
A day or two before the attack, the prerequisites for suffocation begin. The child appears agitation, fear, troubled sleep. At the next stage, redness of the nose with the release of a clear liquid, coughing in a dry form, sputum is observed. These are the most obvious symptoms of asthma in a child, which clearly signal the approach of an attack.

An asthmatic attack can be accompanied by an increase in cough during and after sleep, a nasal congestion, breathing through the mouth, shortness of breath appears, and the chest fluctuates intensely due to insufficient oxygen supply. The child begins to breathe often and briefly with a whistling noise in the lungs.

The main causes of asthma in children
Only 2 main reasons have been identified why the symptom of asthma in a child appears – a predisposition at the genetic level and an environmental factor. About 70% of sick children have inherited a chronic illness, including from distant relatives. Among the risk factors include:

Gender characteristics;
Excess weight;
Food allergy;
The presence of pet hair in the air;
Dust mite;
Dampness, fungus;
Seasonal (pollen);
Allergy to medicines (aspirin, antibiotics).
How is bronchial asthma diagnosed at an early age? You can determine bronchial asthma yourself, knowing the main symptoms and in the laboratory. For self-determination, information is collected on cases of dry cough, wheezing, noisy breathing as a reaction to allergens. Before conducting laboratory tests, the doctor interviews relatives for genetic diseases transmitted by inheritance.

For children from 5 years the following diagnostic methods are carried out:

Tests with various loads;
Blood test, sputum;
Skin tests for allergies;
Measurements of the speed of exhaled air;
The doctor prescribes further treatment, depending on the information received and laboratory data. It should be understood that chronic diseases and allergies are very difficult to cure. The main thing is to determine in time the onset of the attack in the child and ease his condition. A person with bronchial asthma lives in a special mode and must constantly remember this.
